Bamboo is a fairly new fabric for making nappies although it has already gained quite a following. Due to the increased amount of interest in bamboo, I thought it would be interesting to separate these nappies out into their own section although you can also find them in many of the other areas of the site. Bamboo is causing a stir in the real nappy world for a number of reasons. When you get to see and touch bamboo fabric, you'll be won over by its softness. You almost want to rub it against you cheek! The nappies do get harder on washing but overall stay much softer thatn a comparable cotton nappy. You'll also be impressed with the absorbency of bamboo and particularly with their slimness. That makes for very versitile nappies, slim enough for daytime wear under those trendy clothes but super nighttime nappies too. If you are looking for a more Eco-friendly fabric than cotton, then this is the fabric for you! Bamboo is highly eco-friendly and has a short growth cycle that thrives naturally without the need for pesticides or fertilisers. A futher advantage is that Bamboo fabric is highly biodegradable. One further advantage of bamboo is said to be quicker drying times. Howwever, bamboo nappies tend to be slower drying than cotton nappies and that is their one disadvantage. Wetness tends to get caught in the seams and layers of shaped nappies making them feel damp for ages. If you have poor drying facilities it would be worth purchasing a few extra nappies to tide you over the drying time and consider the faster drying bamboo nappies like the Nappy Nation or Motherease one-size. Bamboo is a fairly delicate fabric so I don't advise tumble drying from wet every time you wash; better to finish off in the drier so you can keep your nappies in tip-top condition. |
